Any Input for Me??

My kids are readers. Big time readers! James is all about the adventure books and is deep into "The Sugar Creek Gang" that he got for his birthday. Hannah is all about "The Chronicle's of Narnia" right now.
So, my question? Hannah is at a 7th grade reading level with 6th grade comprehension. James is way up there too, but my question lies with Hannah. All the books that seem to be her reading level are too mature for her in their content. They deal with boys or friend troubles....things she's not into in 3rd grade! Any suggestions on appropriate books for her level AND age?

First off, good for you, monitoring what Hannah is reading! Not many parents do that.

I was a lot like Hannah. Read anything I could get my hands on. How about the Ann of Green Gables series? What about Little House books? There is a series, Christian, called the Ladd Family, about a family in Hawaii. The main characters are boys, but I still really enjoyed them as a kid.

The Elizabeth Gail series is good too...about a foster girl who gets adopted by a Christian family. As she gets older the boy thing happens, but I think you got about 15 books before that point:)

The Mandi Books are good...a Christian mystery series about a girl from the turn of the 20th century.

Hummmm...what else did I read...Little Women, biographies, E.B. White stuff like the Trumpeter Swan, Stewart Little.

Some ones that aren't series...Summer of the Monkies(Great!) My side of the Mountain.

That's all I can think of right now...if I think of more I will let you know. Have fun!

Hey Pam! Kentucky Kate talked about the Mandi several months ago. This summer I found a bunch at a garage sale, Rachel won't be ready for them for a while... I'll give them to your mom so she can get them to you!

I agree with the ones that Liz posted. I will have to look around because many or most of the books around the 7th grade level are dealing with emotional issues. I'll let you know if I find anything. I would ask Melodie if she has any suggestions. She is closer to hannah's age than we are and she's a reader too. Hooray that she loves to read!

How about the author, Kate Dicamello? She wrote Because of Winn Dixie. My friend that I work with has a daughter in the same situation. She loves this author.
