Question for My Mommy Friends

I would really like Evan to drink from a sippy cup. He refuses! Any tricks that you have all used? I already taken out the stopper, and tried several different brands. He's so stubborn! (I have no idea where he gets that). Thanks for your help!!

Forrest could never figure the sippy cup out either...he ended up using a type of thermos with a straw. Rubbermaid makes a drink box with a flip top lid and a straw that goes all the way down. Hope that helps!

I have tried getting Addison to try the sippy cup too....no luck yet. Sorry, no helpful advise, but if you find something that works, let me know. :)

Wyatt never used a sippy until just a couple months ago, about 11 months. He just didn't like it yet. We've given him the Nuby brand, they are a little bit easier to use but they do spill if you're not careful and they don't have that horrible valve thing you have to clean by hand every time. Good luck!

Matt's mom kept telling me not to worry about it with Reese - to offer the cup to her but not make a big deal about it. So that's what I did, and at about 13 months, she decided she liked the sippy, and that was the end!

Is it that he won't drink from it or that he can't?

Kelly, he won't. I know he can because he has taken a few sips here and there.

Well, if it were me, then I would just not give him any other options. By the time Owen was 10 months old, if I had to pump then I put his milk in a sippy cup instead of a bottle. This made it really easy for him to get used to taking everything in a sippy cup so that by the time I quit nursing him he went straight to cups. If he gets thirsty enough, he'll use it - especially when he figures out that he isn't going to get it any other way.

Hi Pam! We are some what in the same boat. Gretchen lacks the notion of head tilting. I usually tilt it for her. However, she has a cup with a flip-top style straw that she just gulps water out of. It is an anti-spill, I think Nuby brand. We purchased it at Target. It has handles and she carries it around. I think the recommended age is like 2 years or something, but she figured it out and likes it.

I've weaned her to cow milk for the most part and now need to work on getting her to drink milk from the sippy. A friends husband who is a pediatrician told me it is best to have babes off a bottle by 15 months--plenty of time!

I enjoy watching Evan grow. He is a cutie. I wish I had more time to blog and stuff.

Bye,
Andrea

I would give him a regular cup first. He will get the idea that he needs to tip his head back to get the goods. I am not a fan of sippy cups. Yes i must like cleaning up spilled milk. When my kids got older (esp. potty training time) I realized I was just filling that cup up often. some of those cups are like 7-8oz. I found a picture of me at 18months and I had a GLASS cup with milk in it. Yes for travel they are great etc. He will totally get it! Kids like to drink out of real glasses thats exciting!!!! esp. mommys and daddys glass! heh. good luck! Oh, and I too have picture of andrew walking and talking with a bottle. Whateva!
